Springfield-area Week 1 high school football top performers, scores and live updates
The high school football season kicked off Friday in the Springfield area, but weather delayed multiple games until Saturday.

The junior receiver caught four passes for 75 yards and a touchdown in Pana棉花糖直播檚 narrow 21-14 South Central Conference victory over Vandalia on Friday. Lynch also contributed 11 tackles defensively. He scored the opening touchdown on a 25-yard pass from Wyatt Kile in the first quarter and Parker Moore reclaimed the lead and secured the win with a 3-yard TD run with 5:42 left in the fourth. Braddock Cates, Williamsville
It was his second big game against Auburn in consecutive regular season games. In the senior running back's season opener, he rushed for 215 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries in Williamsville's 56-27 Sangamo Conference win over Auburn on Friday. He also caught two passes for 46 yards and one TD. In Week 9 of the 2023 season, Cates had his career-best game with 330 yards and five rushing TDs in a win over the Trojans.
Armanze Lewis, Springfield High
His first three touchdown runs put the Senators up 21-0. The senior's fourth TD was Springfield High's final score in a 44-12 win over Champaign Central in the Senators' season opener at Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Lewis carried the ball 25 times for 134 yards in his first varsity start at running back.
Isaiah Harbert, Pana
The senior linebacker led the stifling defense with 12 tackles, including two for loss. He also notched an interception. He was all-SCC first team offensively and defensively last season.
Nate Dyer, Carlinville棉花糖直播
The senior running back/defensive back led both sides of the ball. He generated a team-best 13 tackles while churning out 15 carries for 112 yards and one score in a 37-12 South Central Conference win on Friday. Senior teammate Mason Gilpin caught six passes for 53 yards and a TD and ran for 54 yards and another score on 10 carries. Senior QB Noah Byots completed 13 of 21 passing attempts for 127 yards with two TDs and three interceptions.棉花糖直播
Jack Jones, Auburn
The senior battled through a long lightning delay and a downpour to still finish 21-for-30 passing with 194 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the Trojans' 56-27 Sangamo Conference loss to Williamsville on Friday.
Triston Thompson, Carlinville棉花糖直播
The senior scored three different ways in the SCC win. He caught a 13-yard TD pass in the first quarter before returning an interception the distance 48 yards in the third and punching in a 1-yard TD run in the fourth.
Luke Bowsher, Pleasant Plains
The senior receiver caught four passes for 77 yards and two touchdowns. Grady Grisham also had seven catches for 73 yards. Quarterback Cooper Schallenberg went 18 of 28 for 187 yards with two scores and a pick in a 47-20 Sangamo Conference loss to New Berlin.
Lincoln ground attack
The Railsplitters rushed for 317 yards and opened the season with a 32-0 shutout of Lanphier in Central State Eight Conference play. Paytan Bunner led the ground game with 103 yards on 10 carries, including touchdown runs of 17 and 4 yards. Tate Johnston (72 yards), Gabe Smith (60 yards) and Seth Durbin (57 yards) also scored a rushing TD. Just 10 of Lincoln's 327 total yards came through the air.

The senior running back opened with a 52-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and led the Crimsons with 90 rushing yards and two scores in a 26-14 nonconference win over Pittsfield. He also scored on a short 5-yard run in the fourth period to cement the win. The Crimsons rallied ahead 19-14 with TD runs by Darren Henry and Easton Ackerman.棉花糖直播The Crimsons totaled 269 rushing yards on 37 carries as a team.
Daryl Evans/Nolan Herpstreith, Nokomis
The two backs combined for 294 rushing yards and three touchdowns in Nokomis' 27-12 victory over Arcola. Evans had 15 carries for 175 yards and a 27-yard TD run. Herpstreith rushed 20 times for 119 yards, including TD runs of 12 and 21 yards.
Payne McLean, North Mac
The senior quarterback delivered four touchdowns in North Mac's 34-6 victory over Hillsboro in the South Central Conference. McLean had TD runs of 1 and 5 yards and connected on a pair of TD bombs to junior receivers Kevin Bricker and Kadin Casey that covered 63 and 64 yards, respectively. Running back Roark Lewis had a dazzling 54-yard TD run to cap the scoring.
